Getting to Know Cynthia Satterlee

  • What is your go-to coffee order? Starbucks grande cold brew with 2% milk and 2 Splenda

  • What do you do in the mornings to prepare to go to a school? 5:00am wake up to ensure everyone is packed and ready to go.

  • What is your favorite part of interaction with teachers in your partner schools? Studying their students work together.

  • What is your favorite children’s book series and why? The Pigeon series by Mo Willems. My kids belly laugh everytime we read them together.

  • Tell me about a read aloud that you think is particularly beautiful. The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein

  • What’s your favorite sticky-note color? The power of the pink post-it. If you know, you know!

  • When do you do your best lesson/staff development planning? At the library. I can get distracted at home.

  • Favorite office supply/ classroom gadget? My MacBook. I use it to jot down conference notes, show charts and it holds all my digital books.

  • What do you do when you’re not staff developing? Playing on my block with my family and neighbors.

  • What’s your favorite pen? Sharpie ultra fine point

  • How do you stay organized? My Skylight calendar

  • What’s the state of your desk? (organized, messy, etc.) I plead the 5th

  • If you were to decorate a classroom, what would it look like? Flexible seating would be my top priority.

  • What are you learning right now? AI! I'm currently reading The Artificial Intelligence Playbook by (my best friend) Meghan Hargrave

  • What does professional development mean to you? An opportunity to never stop learning. Study groups that promote discourse and labsites to practice or experiment.

  • If you could go back in time and join a varsity team in high school, which would it be and why? Tennis. I feel like those skills could have come in handy now as I'm looking for an active hobby.

  • What is your favorite thing about Lucy Calkins? Her ability to see five steps ahead.

  • What is one of your hidden talents? I have a pretty good memory.

  • What is your dream summer break vacation? Being home without a single plan on the calendar. Playing it by ear.

  • What makes a “good day” at a school? Anytime I get to work with kids.

  • -If you could pass on any wisdom to students, what would you share?  Stop worrying about what other people think of you.
