Reading is a pathway to knowledge and a portal to imagined worlds full of humor, adventure, and possibility. This institute will help you lift the level of your reading instruction and create a new vision of the ways you can help students grow as word solvers, and as critical thinkers, observers, and readers of the world.
In this institute, you will learn to:
Teach in potent, assessment-based ways using predictable structures that allow children to read with deep engagement.
Curate texts and plan instruction so that all readers can learn the essential and research based skills of reading.
Make your minilessons compelling and lively.
Develop strategies to deliberately adjust your read-alouds so that children experience the power of the skills you are teaching and transfer them into their own independent reading.
Understand the most significant reading strategies and how those skills fit into progressions that develop over time.
Build a toolkit of ready-to-go small groups to support a wide range of learners, and make sure that you have resources at your fingertips when you need them.
