Published Units Available for 2026-2027
The Units of Study in Reading for Grades 3-5 will be available for back-to-school 2026, and include revisions based on feedback from 3,000+ pilot teachers. These units will be an extension of the Units of Study in Reading for Grades K-2, creating a cohesive K-5 reading curriculum.
The Units of Study foster higher-level critical thinking and provide authentic opportunities for students to apply literacy skills in meaningful reading and writing, ensuring deep comprehension and lasting transfer.
Anticipated Pricing: $550 per teacher (plus taxes/shipping)
Price includes 5 Units of Study, The Guide to the Reading Workshop, Supporting All Readers, and access to online resources at launch; details about future access through Heinemann’s Flight platform will follow.
Trade Book Packs, including all the texts used in the Minilessons and Read-Aloud, will be available for purchase. We do not have an exact cost for this yet, but we are predicting it will be around $150 per teacher.
Pilot Available for 2025-2026
Beta versions of the Units of Study in Reading for Grades 3-5 are available to pilot during the 2025-2026 school year. The new Units include explicit instruction around comprehension, fluency, vocabulary, and phonics, and instruction around talk and oral language, engagement, and writing about reading. These units promote deep comprehension, a love of reading, social and emotional development, and the skills and habits of proficient reading. They are aligned to the new Units of Study in Writing, Grades 3-5.
