At The Reading & Writing Project at Mossflower (RWP-M), we understand that instructional coaches are the key to unlocking sustained literacy success in schools. Our Staff Developers work shoulder to shoulder with instructional coaches so they can confidently put their learning into action and support their teachers. Through this partnership, instructional coaches gain the skills and tools they need to strengthen their role as literacy leaders, improving their school’s teaching practices and ultimately their students’ outcomes.
Customized Coaching Support with Staff Developers
Our professional development for instructional coaches is not a one-size-fits-all approach. Instead, individual coaches, or a group of coaches, receive personalized support from highly experienced Staff Developers who collaborate closely with them. Whether the focus is on leading effective staff workshops and labsites or using student data to drive instruction, our Staff Developers work with school coaches to model best practices, offer feedback, and lift the level of instruction.
Building Capacity for Turnkey Leadership
One of the key benefits of our coaching support is that it helps instructional coaches to become strong and effective leaders. Our Staff Developers work with coaches to deepen their understanding of the latest research and most effective literacy practices. With this strong foundation, instructional coaches can then support their teachers by leading professional learning communities (PLC’s), organizing peer observations, and facilitating teacher workshops. By equipping coaches to take ownership of this work, we ensure that the impact of professional development is long-lasting, benefiting not only the coaches themselves but also the entire school community.
Ongoing Support and Collaboration
Our relationship with instructional coaches doesn’t end after a single visit. We believe in continuous growth and reflection, which is why our professional development includes ongoing support through follow-up visits, virtual or in-person coaching sessions, and collaborative inquiry. This sustained partnership allows coaches to troubleshoot challenges, celebrate successes, and deepen their expertise over time.
